20 - Charles Poisot
Charles Poisot was born in 1822. A composer of numerous musical works, he was honorary president of the Chenôve brass band upon its founding in 1866. He co-founded the Municipal School of Music with Antoine Joliet, mayor of Dijon, and became its first director in 1868; at that time, it was a branch of the Imperial Conservatory of Paris. He was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters of Dijon in 1869. He played an active role in the city's cultural life.
In 1867, he acquired the Chapitre building and transformed it into a manor house. Charles Poisot died in 1904.
At 5 Rue Charles Poisot stands a former private mansion dating from 1715, which belonged to the De Voguë family, who fled during the French Revolution. This building then became national property. It was bought by a winegrower from Chenôve, Nicolas Bernard on 12 Pluviôse year 3 (1795). Note a niche in the facade with a "Saint John the Evangelist" listed in the Fine Arts.
