4 - The square cafe - the ring
Originally called the "Café du Grand Saint Vincent," it became known as the "Café de la Place" when its owner, Mrs. Gallois, opened a new establishment under that name on Rue Jules Blaizet.
The first-floor room served as a ballroom, theater, cinema, and rehearsal space for the brass band and other associations. At the back of the courtyard (on the left), a sculpted motif can be seen with the inscription "Elisa Crepet, aged 30 months. May 18, 1859."
On either side of the entrance, a ring is visible. Returning from his vineyard at the end of a hard day's work, the winegrower would stop for a drink at the café and a chat with the villagers. He would tie his horse to this ring, which was fixed to the wall. Several rings of this kind can be seen around the square.
